So the bear did not come back to visit that we know of, thankfully. Though our dog did go kind of nuts at one point, but Kris went to check it out and didn’t see a sign of any unwanted visitors.
Went out to the coop this morning to find more chicks!
The mostly black one at the back with a little yellow underneath is the one that hatched first that I posted a picture of yesterday. The other two hatched in the night. There is a fourth one in there with them too that must have just hatched recently as she’s still wet instead of fluffy. I believe the two black ones are both Lavender Orpington/Ameraucana crosses and the yellow one is either an Ameraucana or just an Easter Egger.
The one above came out of a brown egg. I am not sure on her breed but she would be part Ameraucana as well. The two Marans eggs I bought still have yet to hatch. I didn’t handle them at all to see if I could hear peeping, as I don’t want to disrupt anything. Both these mama hens are pretty friendly and didn’t seem to mind me checking out the babies, but I mostly want to leave them to do their thing.
My hen who is sitting on the bantams has had two hatch, I think. At least, I can hear two. The one above is a Silkie baby. I didn’t want to disturb her too much so didn’t dig around to find out if there was another baby or if it was just an egg peeping that would be hatching soon. So exciting to have all these baby chicks around!
