This is definitely something all new chick owners should be warned about.
Imagine you’re a brand new chicken owner, and you bring home some 2-6 week old chicks, and one keeps doing this over and over. I thought for sure she was having a seizure and dying horribly. Now, they all do it, and I think they’re hilarious to watch.

Notice the outstretched leg? Now imagine her head was down and her eyes were closed (which is how she was until she noticed me about to take a picture)… I would occasionally walk into the room when they were in the brooder and find a chick or two like that. The first few times, I would poke or throw food in to make sure they were alive, but I did get used to seeing chicks laying like that.

I wish I’d gotten a good picture of my Silkie chicks a couple of weeks ago. One other thing I wish I’d been warned about is how terribly ugly they would be for a while. They were adorable babies, but quite pitiful-looking teenagers. They’re looking much better again now though.
